can you take insurance off of your motorcyle during the winter?

if you have a lean on a motorcyle, i know that your suppose to keep full coverage insurance on it. well what if i cancel mine completely this winter and turn in my plates so the courts know that im not driving it? do you think my lean holder would find out? do i even have to turn my plates in?

Check with your insurance agent.
I have the option of changing to a "storage" policy if I wish.
I don’t believe the fact that I don’t have a lien on my bike matters. As long as it’s stored, it’s covered.

I never bother with switching, I keep it rideable.

Yes the lienholder is notified, and you will be considered in breach of contract, and they can put insurance on it and add it to your payments, the way they feel is what if it’s stolen, or there is a fire? Home owners insurance does not cover your bike..

mycoldfeet is correct and also, in my state the license plates (registration) will be suspended. Once that happens you will be fined and denied a license plate reinstatement until you give proof of insurance and pay the fine along with penalties. Seems to me it is cheaper to just opt for a higher deductible and keep the insurance coverage? I carry full coverage on everything I own until the value of it drops below the deductible.

Yes…so longs as you don’t plan on it being stolen or plan to ride on the road
